DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY I

Digital photography has only been around a few years, yet in that short time, it has revolutionized the way people see and record the world around them. This short introductory course will help students to not only understand what digital photography is about but also will help them to compose interesting images using the simplest to more complex digital cameras. After creating images, they’ll learn how to edit them using simple photo editing programs via live on-screen demonstrations.

Now that you’ve learned the basics of digital photography, you may want to learn some advanced techniques. This short course is designed to help you learn about such advanced concepts as reading histograms, advanced tone control, digital dodging and burning, controlling noise, adding mood to your photos, quality of light, image stabilization, and digital SLR photography. To enroll in this course, you must take the basic course, Digital Photography for Beginners, first, or have taken one elsewhere.

DIGITAL IMAGING
2 weeks - Sat. mornings, April 17 & 24, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM $75
In this introductory course, you’ll learn the basic of digital image acquisition from both scanners and digital cameras, as well as photos on CD, followed by the basics of image manipulation and enhancement, getting creative with images, inserting images into documents, E-mails and Web pages, and a look at photo restoration.

SO YOU WANT TO BE A PUBLISHED WRITER

What does it take to be a published writer? You’ll find out in this course, as we explore motivation, writing skills, finding ideas, background and education, time management, equipment, writing and relationships, dealing with rejection, writer’s block, types of writing and, most important of all, marketing. Have you always wanted to write for publication but just didn’t know where to start? This is your chance to find out.

By being taught to see differently, use your senses more accurately, set a mood, use people more effectively, handle conversation, and create a point of view, you'll learn the tools that you can use not only to express yourself but also to communicate successfully with others.

WRITING FOR THE CHILDREN'S MARKET

Writing for the children isn’t any different than writing for adults, except for the subject matter. You’ll learn to think like a child, find ideas that are just right for children, write with a child’s point of view, use the basics of plot to keep your young readers reading, as well as what it takes to make a good children’s story. Included will be a short discussion of children’s markets and how to access them.

The Antiques Roadshow has everyone buzzing about antiques–so much so that people often become confused and think every old item is valuable. This course shows the differences between antiques and collectibles, as well as how to buy, sell, collect and display them. An overview of antiques from 1830 to 1910 covering furniture, ceramics, glassware, and silver will show students what to look for in antique shops and in their home.
